| (And yes, it is spelled that way.) http://db.tigsource.com/games/8bit-killerDo you guys like classic 8-bit games, such as the original Mario or Metroid ( correct me if you want, I never lived during the 8-bit era of video games)? Well, check this out for size! The game is short (dunno how short, I never finished the game), so... it has no save points. The game plays in full wide-screen. Read the info on in the link, then play it ( i'm still saying 'play it blind" but read some info on it first.) Note: I STRONGLY advise you to use cover. Especially on boss stages. EDIT: sorry, link will be fixed. FIXED.

| I'll admit, when I first saw the game, was a bit skeptical. After playing the flash failure that is Alien Slayer 3D, I thought it would be better to stay away from flash/homebrew FPSes for a while...However, having nothing better to do, I decided to take a moment and download the game. It has been a very long time since I've played a game so marvelously done as this one. The graphics and game mechanics definitely bring you back into the era of Doom and Wolfenstein, those good old days where the only aiming you had to do was turn left and right. The movement of your character is perfectly fluid, allowing you to make a complete turnaround when you notice an enemy shooting behind you, or shooting an enemy from around a corner and then strafing away from a stray bullet, depicted as a ball of red light. The game stays fast-paced like the games I have mentioned, adding new threats each level with a perfect amount of difficulty that keeps you strafing and shooting for the game's duration. Exploration is key, especially if you want to pick up the 5 other weapons, each increasing in power up to the minigun. The weapons, however, never become overpowering, for as soon as I found the minigun, I was fighting the second to last boss who fired 3 lines of bullets at me from his obscenely powerful gun. The chapters' endbosses increase in difficulty up to the final boss, which has you strafing for dear life while missles are crashing down on you. The game rewards good gameplay skills with bonus ammo and health powers, which disappear if you die. Regular health restoration becomes very scarce in the final chapters of the game, further influencing the need of old-school FPS skills to make it through to the next level. Dying results in a "three strikes, you're out", with you having two continues at your disposal in order to make it through the game. You start back at the beginning of the level with all your weapons and max health and ammo, but any bonuses to those maximums are gone for good. Bottom line: From blasting Gun Bull with a shotgun, to dodging the onslaught of the mechanical War Bird, to fighting Master Brain to save the future of all humanity, this game will always leave you strafing and shooting in one of the best homebrewed games I've played yet. If TraskNari finds the time to choose a request, I'd say this one is worthy of such an honor. | |
